Types of Hearing Aids

The four main categories of Hearing Aids are based on how they fit into, or onto, your ear.

2.4.1 bte.jpg

Behind the Ear (BTE)

Popular for their reliability and long life, BTE devices are suitable for a wide range of hearing loss.

This style of hearing device sits behind the ear and is attached via tubing to a small dome or custom-made mould that fits in the ear canal. The open-fit style leaves the ear canal unoccluded, allowing environmental sounds to be heard in their amplified state.

For people with a greater hearing loss or who need a more secure style, a custom-made mould is used to allow greater volume adjustment and ease of insertion.

Receiver in the Ear (RITE)

This innovative style replaces the conducting sound tube with a wire that drives a loudspeaker in the ear canal. Typically smaller than BTEs, RITE Hearing Aids are therefore more discreet, and their design gives a smoother acoustic result.

This hearing aid is personally moulded

Personally moulded to fit your ear, custom-fit Hearing Aids come in three sizes based on your needs and your ear shape.

Completely-in-the-canal (CIC)

These are the smallest type of Hearing Aid and are completely discreet. Because of their size, CIC Hearing Aids can be challenging for clients with dexterity problems, or for those with very small ear canals.

In-the-canal (ITC)

Sized between CIC and ITE, in-the-canal Hearing Aids balance cosmetic appeal, features and functionality.

In-the-Ear (ITE)

In-the-ear devices are custom fitted and have large controls and a larger battery making it easier for those with limited dexterity.
