The short answer is that most hearing aids are not waterproof, and you should not expose them to any more moisture than you would be happy exposing to your laptop! When in doubt, you're better to take them out. Some of the newer devices including the Phonak Audeo Life are waterproof*

Ensure your hearing aids are safely removed before:

  • Swimming or participating in water activities
  • Showering
  • Intense exercise
  • Getting caught in heavy rain

It is important to remember to dry your hair thoroughly before putting in your hearing aids. You should remove your hearing aids from the bathroom whilst showering. Bathrooms are humid and wet environments, and the steam from the shower can cause moisture damage.

The best way to keep your hearing aids dry and in good condition is with a purpose-designed dryer. There are simple and more complex solutions available. You may choose to opt for an electronic drying device or Phonak Dry Cups and Drying Capsules which are easy to use and will ensure that your hearing aids are well looked after.

To get the most out of your hearing aids, make sure you use new Drying Capsules every three months. The capsules will turn from yellow to salt-like white when they are ready to be replaced.
